The 31st WEPA World Elephant Polo Championships were held at the end of November 2012 at Tiger Tops Karnali, on the edge of the Bardia National Park in South Western Nepal. Chinggis Khan of Mongolia, who beat the Pukka Chukkas in the 2011 Olympic Quaiche Final, were crowned World Champions after an imperious display, and huge congratulations go to the Afghaniphants who started the week slowly but played brilliantly to lift the Olympic Quaiche after beating the Pukka's in the Sem-Final and then Mel's Angels in the final.
After losing Simon Race to a back injury before the tournament began, the Pukkas fought hard to reach the semi-finals of the Quaiche, where they finally found their form to pip The Rusty Kukris in the Combat Cup for the Olympic bronze medal. We know the Kukris will be back to fight another day and we look forward to renewing our friendly emnity next year!
Michael Eaton, playing a strikers role up front and a sweeping role in defence, finished the tournament as the 4th highest goal scorer as the Pukkas came so close once again to WEPA glory....roll on 2013!
